Letter of Lt. Matthew H. Peters, of the Company F, 74th Ohio Volunteer Infantry to Brig. General [Richard W.] Johnson, commander of the 1st Division, 14th Army corps, asks that private George W. Stokes of Co. F, 74th OVI be released from arrest for desertion and be returned to duty. The letter is in accompaniment of a typed transcription by Charles W. Gray of the letter and of Peters' gravestone and memorial stone inscriptions in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Watseka, Illinois.
